Suffering and Sin in 1Peter 4:1-4

1 Peter 4:1 KJV [1] Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased (or been released)** from sin; https://bible.com/bible/1/1pe.4.1.KJV

McGee clarifies that “ceased” here means God uses suffering to loosen the control sin has over our lifestyle or to “keep us from sin.”
