1 John 3:4 KJV
[4] Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

“Committeth sin” can be understood as having a habit or life of sin. 

If we have that habit of sinning we should really question our “sonship”. He compares us to the Prodigal who was in the “pigpen of sinful living” but he left it to return to his father.

Staying in the pigpen would indicate he is a Pig, NOT a Son!
